Steve Reis' Obituary

STEVEN KURT REIS, 60, sadly passed away on July 2, 2020. His wish was to gently leave his pain for a heavenly life in the loving arms of Jesus, while holding the hands of his wife, Judy, and their four children. God granted his wish.

Steve bravely fought pancreatic cancer for fourteen months.

Even with all of Steve’s accomplishments, being a loving family man, son, brother, uncle and friend were his highest priorities.

Steve was born on December 30, 1959 in Baltimore Maryland to parents, Herbert Julius Reis and Thekla Maria Rosenberg Reis.  Steve’s father was an aerospace engineer and his mother a primary school teacher. The family moved to Thousand Oaks, California in 1964.

On June 30th, 1990, Steve married Judy Ellen Wright in the Stauffer Chapel at Pepperdine University. They celebrated their thirtieth anniversary just three days prior to his death. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Ventura, California where Melissa Lauren Reis was born. They lived a short time in Agoura, California and then relocated to San Marcos, California in 1997, where David Steven Reis was born in LaJolla, California and where later twins, Annie Maria and Jenna Joy Reis were born.

Steve and his family attended the North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad, California.  All four of the children graduated from Valley Christian School and then San Marcos High School.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Herbert and is survived by his mother, Thekla, who is active at 91 years old.  Steve is also survived by his sister, Teena Jones.

Steve was educated at Madrona Elementary, Redwood Intermediate School, Newbury Park High School and received his Associate Degree from Moorpark College in Science Agronomy/Soil Science and later his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara, California. Steve was employed by ComQuest, Space Micro, National Semi Conductor, ViaSat.

Steve had a love for gardening and had great knowledge of botany. Other hobbies were hiking, art (drawing), and raising cacti.  He knew all of the Latin names of plants, trees and cacti.

Steve loved all animals and grew up with toy poodles.  Steve’s latest dog and true, devoted companion was Remi.   Steve also was an accomplished ukulele and guitar player and greatly enjoyed traveling. Steve and his son, David toured Europe just prior to his illness.

A virtual Celebration of Life service will be held for Steven Kurt Reis on Saturday, July 25th at 11.00 am, PST.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pancreatic Action Network, pancan.org in honor of Steven Reis.

Poem

I'm Free - Unknown

This poem is attributed to various authors and is also known by several different titles

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard his call,
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I've found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My Life's been full, I savoured much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
