Obituary

Robert Arthur McCallum passed away on July 14, 2020 in Gainesville, Florida.  Robert fondly known as Bobby (Uncle Bob) was born on November 22, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Margaret McCallum, biological mother, Viola Swindell McNair, sister Leola Jackson, brother-in-law Jesse Nash, niece Denise “Niecey” Booker, nephew Jesse L. Nash and special cousin Joseph Belton (JB) Baldwin.

Bobby attended public schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Bartram High School.  He was united in holy matrimony to Leath S. Green on May 04, 1957.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Rochelle McCallum Harvey and Anita McCallum Outen.  Later in life, he married Shirley Griffin on June 29,1985 in Philadelphia, PA and then relocated to Starke, Florida.

Bobby was a diligent worker and labored hard over the years.  He worked as a truck driver for many years and was later employed with the City of Starke, Florida from which he retired. Bobby led by example and instilled in us the importance of being on time. Bobby had a heart of gold and would always lend a helping hand to those in need.  He enjoyed repairing vehicles, driving, dancing, listening to the oldies, and being outdoors.  His favorite dances he could often be seen doing was called the “slop” and the “bop”.  We will have fond memories of him dancing with family and friends.  He cherished his family and friends and we are happy that we had the time with him here on earth.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 35 years, Shirley McCallum, children, Rochelle (Herbert), Anita (Randolph), Kelvin (Greta) Jones, Crystal Dempsy Williamson, Charles Woodard, Avery, Kashondra and Ka’Shon McCallum, sister, Lila Nash, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, special nephews, Pedro Swindell, Rickey Swindell, special nieces, Velda Jackson, and Balis Presley, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and dear friend Lee Payton.  A life well-lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.  He will always be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by family and friends.
